New Single & Video 'Ana Santana From Copacabana'
Ana Santana From Copacabana was a song I wrote in 2005 and is an homage to the decadence of Copacabana, my home in Rio for much of the 1990s.
Taking cues from Brazilian boogie and with an extraordinary instrumental break arranged by maestro Alberto Continentino we wanted to recreate the feel of the kind of international 'brazilian' sound popular in the 1970s where American influences met with European and Brazilian - think Marcos Valle, Raul de Souza, George Duke, Viva Brasil or Deodato - music that was played in clubs like Dingwalls in London.
The song tells the story of beauty that fades and the character of 'Ana' is a composite of a couple of real life people I knew in the 90s as well as an allegory for the beauty/chaos that is Copacabana.
